I apologize that I have not posted. The past year has been a nightmare. A man I was with took over my email and blogs and I was unable to get in. I finally got us all away from that man, and am able to get back in my blogs, but it is with a broken heart that I have to tell you Henry passed on today. After 15 months of living somewhere none of us were happy at, I finally managed to get us out. I was really looking forward to a new life with both my kids and furbabies, but Henry unfortunately was only able to enjoy the first couple months with us. I am glad he was able to spend his last couple months in a much more peaceful environment, but very sad that is all he got. Before we got out, Henry was on the maximum dose of Phenobarbital because otherwise he would keep clustering. After we were in a more peaceful environment, March 3rd. I was able to lower Henry's Pheno, and he stayed seizure free. Eventually I was able to get his Pheno dose to only half what it was before. Still, he stayed seizure free. Yet, it was too late, his liver was already shutting down and nothing was reversing it. He was also diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes in it self is very treatable, and so I spent the last two days trying very hard to see if I could treat the diabetes and bring him back. He only got worse. This afternoon he was no longer even lifting his head. I pleaded to God that I needed a break, and presto, there was my neighbor. He lovingly loaded Henry into the van, drove us to the emergency vet, paid cash for the euthanasia and private cremation, stayed by our sides, and took pictures, drove us home and got us McDonald's.

Emily, I am so sorry to hear about Henry! I am glad you are in a better environment and I'm sure Henry knew how much you loved him. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Are you a member of the Epil-K9 email list? You could add Henry to the memorial site if you are when you're ready. Sorry if bringing this up now is too soon, I'm not trying to be insensitive.
Yes, I used to be a member of the epil-k9 list, and Henry would be honored to be added to the memorial site. Thank you. ((((Heidi)))
Emily, I have thought about you over the years since you left CHF. I don't know why you left but I have missed you bunches! You always made me smile and you were one of the only ones who stood up with me when Steve Irwin passed on! Remember that? (I was probably Gina in NM back then..I'm now Gina in the 'ville since I moved to TN)
I am so sorry to hear that both your beloved furbabies have passed on! I'm also very thankful for your wonderful neighbor! He sounds like a true gem!
The reason I searched for your blog...I have an online friend who's dog just had a seizure. Her Standard Poodle is 3 years old and it has never happened before. I remembered your experience with Henry and your ice trick. I am going to refer her to your blog.
Emily, if there is anything I can do please let me know. I know we don't live close but if you need to talk or if you just need prayer I'm here for you. *hugs*
Gina!!! Yes, I remember that debate about Steve Irwin! I'm in college now, and haven't really been posting on forums since then. My major is Vet Technician. :) I miss you too!
I intend to keep my blog up forever even if I don't post much on it anymore. I remember when I first adopted Henry how frustrating it was to find blogs of other people's detailed experiences with their epi-dogs. So the more blogs like this the better!
At 3 years old, your friend's poodle probably either got in something that triggered the seizure, or has idiopathic epilepsy. Henry's idiopathic epilepsy really didn't affect his quality of life. It just shortened his life due to the anti seizure med shutting down his liver. He was just a regular greyhound that had a grand-mal seizure from time to time. Stress was the biggest trigger of all. I hope my blog helps your friend.
